Roland Barthes, the seminal philosopher, wrote that wrestling was the perfect example of spectacle in our society. But we have a different take—wrestling just happens to be the perfect example of effective brand identity!
Think about it, each wrestler has an identity either as a good guy, a bad guy, or somehere in-between. They have their own look, logo and persona. And once that identity is established, there is no deviation. The wrestler remains true to his persona in the “marketplace” of the wrestling ring and to his or her devoted fans or “customers”.
