The Supremes hit an off note

It really is frightening to think that only one guy stands between 30 years of precedent and the destruction of what's left of our natural environment.

GooglePlex: Nuclear Proof Web Apps

Much balleyhoo has been made about Goggle buying 30 acres in the Dalles. It's about the access to water some speculate. Others believe the move was made to link into the miles of fiber optic cable available in the area due to the Bonneville Power Administration nearby. But the survivalists in the area know this: that the prevailing winds in the jet stream position the area well in case of nuclear strikes in major cities on the west coast. If Seattle, Portland or San Francisco evaporate, Google will not be vulnerable to radiation.

Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together...kinda.

Maybe I'm behind the times but I just learned that nearly every Emily Dickinson poem can be sung to the tune of The Yellow Rose of Texas. Wierd but true. Google it for yourself. In the meantime, try reading this poem with that song stuck in your head. It works!

Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne'er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.
Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory!

As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!

One of the greats

Jerry Lewis has suffered a heart attack. He is one of my favorite comedians. Maybe because he is named Jerry. Yet I was always facinated by him; I was drawn to him and repelled by him all at the same time.

It is amazing that he has lasted this long considering his health over the years. His passing will be morned by more than just the French. Vive Jerry Lewis.

PS. I bet the newspapers already have his obit at the ready.

XL ads: the horrible aftermath

Ah, it's Monday, the sweet smell of Guatamalen Antigua scents the room and it's time for the morning after review. As I said, FedEx wins the Superbowl hands down. All the online polls confirm this. However, the women in the office sharply disagree, in their minds, the Budweiser commercial with the "streaking" lamb was cuter and therefore more worthy of selection. They also enjoyed the ABC promos for Desperate Housewives featuring manly men, mostly athletes discussing their favorite characters and plots. It didn't even register in my male reptilian brain.

All of this points to the very thin slicing of communication going on in our culture. It is affecting advertising and every other medium as well.

The better team won

But the best ad was FedEx, hands down.

I went to and GoDaddy was a major disappointment, there was no reference to the commercial on XL, no continuing story, just the website. It made me want to avoid it in the future.

Here's to beer is a web site by the beer makers of America or something like that. Nice web site but it's all in flash so I can't reference it in the future. I didn't think the site warranted bookmarking, there are plenty of site that will give you a history of beer, pairings, etc. Beer must be in trouble to put this kind of marketing out there. Obviously, spirits are eroding beer's market share.
